    TOILETS IN THE SQUARE
Following representations which I received, these have been re-opened by the Highland Council and will remain open throughout the winter months. Sandra Fleming of White Lodge has volunteered to open the toilets on Sunday mornings ensuring 7 day operation. Many thanks to all who contacted me on this and especially to Sandra and Jim Smith of the Highland Hotel who offered actual help with the opening and closing of the toilets. (In Sandra’s case cleaning too, but we’ve spared her that!)

    SQUARE WHEELS
Tourist information services are to be provided by a new specialist business in the Square offering an excellent range of off-road cycles, clothing and equipment. Best wishes to Andy Dytch and Steve Macdonald on their enterprise and thanks to HOST for coming up with a new partnership agreement to keep the premises open.

    CLOSURE OF STRATHPEFFER SIGN SHOP
As part of the ongoing fall-out from the loss of the trunk roads contract to BEAR, Highland Council have closed the Sign Shop at the east end of the village. Staff are now working for a private contractor with premises in Muir of Ord.

I would prefer to see the building in use either through sale, or preferably lease, and its exterior improved and maintained. An eyesore developing in the middle of a conservation area is not acceptable.

    PAVILION GARDENS
Progress has been made in forming a voluntary group to take over some responsibility for the maintenance of the completed gardens. Details have yet to be thrashed out but a service level agreement with the Highland Council is on the cards. This means that specified work carried out by the group would be funded annually by the Council. Credit is due to all who worked so hard throughout last summer and to Marie Tait, Morag Polson, Karen Evans and Janet Bowen for their continuing commitment on the group.
